Terms of use

Beluga is an early experiment built on new AI models. It’s free to try, and it can be wrong. Please read this before relying on it.

  1. An experiment, offered as is

Beluga is pre-release software made available free of charge for testing. It is provided “as is” and “as available”, with its faults, and may be incomplete or unstable.

  2. AI that can make mistakes

Speech uses an experimental AI model. Text extraction, chapters and topic suggestions also use on-device software and rules. They can mispronounce, skip, repeat, reorder or misread text, and can mistake what is a heading or what to leave out.

What you hear may not match the source. Check the original whenever accuracy matters, and don’t rely on Beluga where a mistake could cause harm.

  3. Availability

Pre-release builds can change, lose features, stop working, expire or be withdrawn at any time, without notice. Support and updates aren’t promised.

  4. Keep your own copies

Your library lives only on your device, and testing builds can lose data. Keep the original articles and files somewhere safe, and export library data you want to keep. An export is not a full backup, and Beluga currently has no restore feature. Beluga leaves its library out of automatic cloud backups.

  5. What you import

Only import material you’re allowed to use. Articles, PDFs and artwork belong to their owners; Beluga isn’t affiliated with the publishers you listen to.

  6. No warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the people who make Beluga give no warranties or conditions of any kind, express or implied, including about accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

  7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, they are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using or being unable to use Beluga, including lost data, lost time or reliance on what it reads aloud. Where liability can’t be excluded, it is limited to the extent the law allows.

  8. Your rights

Nothing here limits rights that can’t be waived or limited under the law that applies to you, including consumer protection rights.

  9. Privacy and changes

How Beluga handles data is described in the privacy policy. These terms may change as Beluga develops; updates appear here with a new date.
